Starting a new business in the iconic Jacksons Restaurant was considered a very brave move. We locals were sad to see Neal Jackson hang up his pinny, he’d been on the strip for many years and there would be very few people who live in 6003 and 6050 who hadn’t enjoyed Jacksons degustation menu. When you needed somewhere that little bit special, you could frock up and walk down the street knowing you’d definitely need the walk home.

Well that’s just how we felt last week when me and Mrs Jones (we don’t have a thing going on either) decided to give the new kid on the block a shot. Well what a surprise, St Michael 6003 has been put together by Red Cabbage’s Scott and Hazel and Petit Mort’s Todd Scott and whilst it had only been open a matter of days, the food, wine and service were exceptional.

We decided to have the 3 plates for $49, that meant me and Mrs Jones shared 6 small plates, yes they were small but we could barely eat it all. We had the cauliflower, I dislike cauliflower intensely (stems from my childhood) but she picked 3 and I picked 3 so what could I do? Definitely having that again, I’ve changed my mind completely about cauliflower. We also had the scallops, trout, marron, lamb and bacon washed down with a particularly nice red, perhaps we had 2!

This is just what we need on Beaufort Street and feeling very excited about a return visit. So Neal, we do miss you but we may just survive after all. Plus there are still 4 dishes on the small plate menu we haven’t tried.
